Alas, Someone Who Understands Government
While opposing the federal government’s anti-immigration policy, particularly that of building a wall along the border, has been all the rage around here, one man has finally broken from that trend. While the majority of Commissioners Court supported a resolution from the Border Network for Human Rights to denounce enforcement of federal immigration laws, Commissioner Haggerty seems to be aware of the fact that he is part of COUNTY government. “I’m opposed to a border wall, but I believe we need to support the laws of this country,” Haggerty said before the vote. “We need to support our government. If you don’t like who’s in office, throw them out.” Expect the El Paso Times to publish letters from both sides.
Commissioner Sarinana, however, seemed to have forgotten about the Constitution altogether as he invoked God into the debate (I use that word loosely). He claimed that we’re all God’s children. If that is really the case, get some damn child support because some of those kids are getting treated like crap, especially on the other side of the river.
Get ready for part 2 as Fernando Garcia, el General de BNHR, says he will take the resolution to the mayor. Yeah, that bald guy with the guitar who wants to toll the free bridge.
I rest easy knowing that these resolutions are meaningless and are just a form of pandering. Thank you, Commissioner Haggerty.
