Del Pueblo Press, Inc., Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe, the City of El Paso, Border Roots Chicano reggae and the distinguished panel of El Pasoans will pay tribute to Joe Olvera with The Chicano Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Olvera was El Paso’s first Chicano television news reporter, and his pioneering work both in journalism, activism and politics helped break the barriers that had limited Chicano’s influence in El Paso, along the border and around the country. There will also be a discussion of Mr. Olvera’s battle with Diabetes.
Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be the community celebration for Mr. Olvera at The Percolator Cafe, 217 N. Stanton (Corner of Mills and Stanton)
