Good:
Apparently the County has an extra $23 million in revenue it did not anticipate. Could it be all the bribe money was just put into the County’s accounts?
City Council did not take on any new enemies this week. In all fairness, several other institutions have taken the feds to court on the border fence issue. In fact, UT Brownsville won a legal battle against the feds, as the Department of Homeland Security was forced to drop its eminent domain lawsuit against the university.
Bad:
Water bills will rise 10%. From what I’ve heard this rate increase was made with the belief that the $131 million Hunt Communities deal would go off without a hitch.
The Central Appraisal District mailed out notices and over a quarter of the 400,000 notices will show increases in house values. This means higher property taxes. When making an increase to a home’s value, the CAD is limited to 10%, and they maxed that out on some homes. Who says there’s a housing crisis?
A stash house in Northeast El Paso was raided and a ton of pot was found, along with some illegal immigrants. The pot will eventually be destroyed :(.
The violence in Juarez has resulted in a military presence. I hope this does not hurt my plans to see the U.S. Women’s national soccer team beat Jamaica and Mexico.

The sad thing about this incident, as with many other street racing accidents, is that other people were involved in the crash. New rule: street racing accidents in which ONLY the racers are hurt should receive NO news coverage. These idiots in their souped up “I’m a loud douchebag” cars are not worthy of my alcohol.
